To say that Lilly Pulitzer is a classic style icon would be an understatement.
Founded in the 1960s by a former classmate of Jackie Kennedy, the brand catapulted into the sartorial lexicon after the former First Lady wore it on the cover of Time magazine. With the arrival of the mid-1980s, Lilly shut down the company; however the heritage brand was resurrected in the 1990s. I cannot recall any other label that has been able to execute a comeback to the extent that Lilly Pulitzer has.
Legend has it that despite being born into the most fortunate of socio-economical circumstances, Lilly Pulitzer was known as being quite personable with everyone with whom her path crossed. It was not out of the ordinary to see everyone from her groundskeeper to friends from the beach club at her soirees. When I see a Lilly product, it symbolizes this democratization.
