Etsy and eBay are goldmines when it comes to vintage Lilly Pulitzer. While I have avoided purchasing skirts and pants from the secondary market purveyors, I have had luck with buying vintage dresses, albeit in a few sizes too large.
Not only were the brand label and size label each affixed to the dress, but often so was a label that corresponded to the department store and department in which said article was sold. Lord and Taylor Sports & Country Clothes, Neiman Marcus Ladies.
Sizing standards were so different circa the 1960s. Clothing, including Lilly Pulitzer, ran smaller than they do these days.
the vintage Lilly Pulitzer dress
This dress began as a size, drum roll please, eighteen. Naturally, it was too large, by about three sizes. The day it arrived in the mail, I walked that frock to my neighborhood tailor for fitting and a cleaning. Cut to a customized fit dress, pun intended, for my 35th birthday party.
