After months of coveting, I visited the Hermès boutique in CityCenter during last week while I was in the district for work. I bought the Oran Sandals in “gold” or the popular tan color. I spent the following day breaking them in at the office and out at dinner. It was an indulgent purchase but one that I have been considering since last autumn when I initially tried them on at the Hermès boutique in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
Let’s discuss sizing. That KZ Hermès boutique did not have the “gold” / tan (my preferred colorway) in any size close to what I wore, nor did it have any size 11s. I initially tried on the black version in a 10.5, which was entirely too small. It was a very second world experience, albeit in the boutique of a luxury brand.
Cut to last week and I tried on a size 11 in the “gold” / tan. I skeptically inquired whether they were available in a size larger; yes, a size 12. No shame in having a large shoe size, I am six feet tall which necessitates a larger foot.
I digress.
CityCenter Hermès did have the 12 and it was the perfect fit.
