Now that we have returned home, we can share that we were in Walt Disney World last Sunday through Saturday (early) morning. The trip was our way of celebrating the Pamper Pirate and letting him take a victory lap as the only child. We wanted to treat him before the littlest one’s arrival, even if that meant bringing him while I was in my 34th week of pregnancy.
I get the sense that being in Walt Disney World and wanting to make the trip perfect brings out the stress in parents, which brings out the stress in their children. I went into this trip knowing that it would not be perfect. My objective was to give the best experience to the Pamper Pirate. Between meeting all of his favorite characters over meals, swimming in the hotel pool, and riding The Barnstormer four times, I think he had the best time. I am still so proud of how well behaved and meltdown-resistant he was throughout the trip.
I pushed the trip back from December to January when I neglected to book the hotel when there was capacity. This ended up being a good call, as the hotel rate was less than half per night in the low season option. The trade off was being later in the pregnancy, which honestly was not that bad thanks to the training I kept up during my second and third trimesters. (Thanks, Barry’s!) I was sure to schedule a sit down reservation for either breakfast or lunch once a day in order to grant my feet rest and we certainly slowed down throughout each day. By the time we returned to the hotel each night, my ankles appeared to have swallowed softballs. I went to bed either wearing compression socks and / or elevating my feet on pillows.
Now that we are back, I promised our soon-to-be big brother another trip to Walt Disney World in four years, just in time for the new arrival to grow to the very age of big brother now.
