In preparation for the baby, I finally moved our big brother into his big boy room! This required quite a bit of thought and coordination in curating the perfect room for the soon-to-be promoted. After painting what was originally intended as my office this past summer, we had the bedroom repainted Sherwin Williams Bohemian Lace – a soft, beautiful white that works for the positioning of the bedroom within the greater house – several weeks ago. Stafford Painting, Philadelphia homeowners, look into them! Nick Stafford operates with the utmost of professionalism, and I have worked with a lot of large scale painters via my 8-to-5 and small scale contractors via personal home renovations.
I knew I wanted to repurpose the Lovevery Montessori Shelf and the Spot on Square Ulm Dresser Drawers that we have been using for his smaller only child room. The primary finishes were birch and white lacquer with brushed nickel hardware. I opted to carry the white finish through with the Babyletto bunk bed. Because, naturally, a bunk bed was a non-negotiable for the soon-to-be-big-brother.
I was most excited to pick out textiles for the room. The combination of the geometric sheets (and back up sheets, #ifkyk) with the abstract rug (over the rug pad, naturally) with the colorblock quilt and sham make quite the impact and allowed me to rest easy that I selected the neutral white shade on the walls. These are all applied atop of the Saatva mattresses which I found to be the optimum dimensions for this particular bunk bed, but not before wrapping each mattress in a waterproof mattress protector.
Though I sourced nearly everything brand new, the final touches are a small collection of heirloom and homemade quilts, passed down from my husband and made by my son’s Nana; however the piece de la resistance is a set of vintage 1960’s skis once belonging to my husband’s PapPap, mounted on the wall.
