Subtitle: Sisterhood of the Traveling Vintage Lilly Pulitzer Dress
the vintage lilly pulitzer shift dress
Nearly five years ago, I worked on a blog post and social media campaign for the mid century modern Monkey Tree Hotel in Palm Springs. The owners, designers, proprietors of the hotel at the time, Kathy and Gary, had fled the rat race of NYC for a different pace out west. Kathy, an architect, Jamie, and I yapped on and on about the built environment and vintage Lilly Pulitzer.
Half a decade and a pandemic later, I am still in touch with Kathy, who provides the most awe inducing mid mod Instagram feed @kf_modern_designs ☀️🌴. I heard from her via direct message just a few weeks ago. While she was paring down her closet she found an old Lilly Pulitzer shift dress that she had never worn. Old, as in, 1960s vintage. She considered this vintage Lilly Pulitzer shift dress that had a too-long-on-her hemline. To take up the dress would eliminate the crochet detail at the bottom hem. As I top six feet tall, Kathy asked if I would want the dress.
I don’t think I need to tell you how this story ends.
