Last week, I shared how I was inspired by Martha Stewart to start an urban container garden in the private outdoor space of our property. I wanted to address the back wall and the side of the property while also taking advantage of minimal sunlight and repelling pests.
Initially, I wanted this to be a weeklong project to be undertaken while my husband was out of town for work at the end of March. My mother-in-law, who is also a fantastic resource when it comes to gardening, was staying with us to help out with the newborn. However, we were both struggling with colds that week and as such, I only ordered the containers for the back and continued plant research.
Cut to a week later when my husband returned home to the planters in the boxes. After a week brought a deluge of rain, his brother came to visit. The day of the big eclipse, they assembled the containers.
For the side alley, I want to install a Tarter tall planter. Tarter does not sell their product directly; you have to go through an authorized dealer. It looks as though I will not be able to find an authorized Tarter dealer in Pennsylvania, so I will be heading to the Garden State (get it?) to pick up this planter or at least put one on order. With that, the Tarter tall planter moved to phase two of the project, to be completed as soon as I wrap up the initial work in the back.
For the back of the space, I opted for two vertical planters in the brown container colorway (the black was unavailable) and a planter with a trellis. I wanted to put the vertical planters in the inset of the back wall and the measurements per the website would have been accommodated. However, we found that the measurements were of the containers, rather than the containers within the vertical frames.
As such, we relocated the grill to the outdoor inset and the vertical planters in the grill’s original place. Unfortunately the assembly of the planter with a trellis had to be put on hold as we were missing some pieces of hardware:

I will say that after emailing Perigold, I received a fairly timely response with tracking information gift the hardware. We look forward to getting the hardware in the mail and finish putting together the trellis portion of the planter.
