You might be living under a rock if at this point, you are still unaware that Zac Posen is both an Executive Vice President and Creative Director of Gap Inc. and the Chief Creative Director of Old Navy. This is not exactly news, as the press release came out in February of last year, and more recently the placement was covered extensively by a Vogue feature.
After an unofficial preview in which Anne Hathaway wore a white shirtdress from the GapStudio line on the red carpet with major Bulgari bling, select pieces from Zac Posen’s Gap Collection started its initial rollout last winter. Finally a further collection was released just weeks ago. Unfortunately, GapStudio was not offered in tall, nor petite size ranges and such, I did not partake in Posen’s take of what the Gap brand could be.
Enter Old Navy and the week-old, ultra low key, Occassion line, what I understand to be the accessible brand’s answer to the elevated GapStudio. Rather than everyday separates that could be worn with the baseline brand, as well as mixed with high (I’m thinking Toteme) and low (a Hanes mens v-neck, obviously), the Old Navy Occassion line is better suited for other special event dressing, along the lines of the cocktail spectrum.
The best part is that this style is for everyone from petite to tall, from extra small to extra large, and in the case of the standard size range, up to 4X! Occassion for (nearly) everyone!
While I pulled what I consider to be the most eye catching patterns in most covetable styles, I am particularly taken with the brown and white polka dotted crop top and matching full midi skirt. I already own the skirt in black, from last fall into spring and it was one of my seasonal closet MVPs. The skirt has an elasticized back, which allows a bit of flexibility on the size front. I have been able to get away with a medium tall, although I will say, it is a tight squeeze. The matching top has a smocked back that mirrors that size flexibility.
