Scenic Prints

Circa summer of 1999, scenic prints were having a moment amongst wardrobes of the teen set. I distinctly recall recognizing them, first in magazines and then in catalogs. While Delia’s, Moxie Girl, and Alloy all had iterations, the Girlfriends LA catalog had a version that recently popped up thanks to the nostalgia account @imstuckin.1999. After some back and forth with Shaina, the originator of the account, she also sent me a screen grab of MK and A in Holiday in the Sun, where one of them – I am guessing Mary-Kate – is wearing a scenic island print skirt.

If there was any doubt that scenic prints were an It print of 1999, Rachel Green wore a scenic print sundress in the series of Friends episodes at the beach, when Bonnie shaves her head, you know the one.

I just took this village print dress on a second day out and I got just as many compliments as I did the first day that I wore it out. The print, in particular, is quite the conversation starter. Now I am having FOMO about never indulging in a scenic print the first time around, nearly thirty years ago.

In addition to the dress that I have found recent success with, I found two other scenic print dresses that give 1999 in a nostalgic, yet elevated, way, and are available in long length sizing.
