Raquel Reyes is repping the American Girl of today and – plot twist – she is the great-great-granddaughter of one of the OG’s herself, Samantha Parkington. Raquel’s pink plaid dress is a reference to Samantha’s burgundy checked get-up and you cannot convince me otherwise!
I read a few Reddit comments in the American Girl thread, from those who identify as Latina/Latinx, who loved that Sam Parkington has their heritage in her lineage. It is truly a reflection of what actually happens in America.

No I will not be buying one. My sons are not interested in dolls and I am not emotionally or psychologically stunted, so while I can enjoy Raquel Reyes and her lore from online, I don’t feel the need to buy her in order to host a tea party between us and her great-great-grandma.
