When I made the decision to join a gym, I was very cognizant of how the type and quality of gym experience would weigh on how often I was motivated to use it.
The closest gym to my home is a Sweat Fitness. It seems too utilitarian though. Also, when a workout is too close to home, I tend to stop at home to change first, and then I wind up not wanting to go to the gym at all. Equinox was too out of the way, and if I was going to go west of Rittenhouse Square, I may as well just go to Barry’s.
I landed on the Sporting Club at the Bellevue, reasons being threefold. It is close enough to my work that I can go straight there and then dart over to school pick up. It is not too far that I do not enjoy the walk over to Broad Street to spend a weekend morning there. In addition to family hours, there are several youth athletic programs there, which Petite Garcon has come to enjoy. The last time my family picked me up from the Sporting Club at the Bellevue, he asked me if I was at his gym. (The nerve!) Finally, the experience is elevated. The facility’s renovations were complete by 2024 and include a pool, outdoor space, studios, and spa-like amenities that make it easy to plan and follow through with an early morning at the gym.
