All about what I wore to the Old City June First Friday…
the lilly pulitzer tina maxi romper
While the Lilly Pulitzer website advertised this style as a romper, it is not a romper and actually far better than a romper. It is actually two pieces: a pair of shorts and a crop top, although it is not exact cropped as there is a maxi-length panel hanging from the front and the back. It is genius, really.
The shorts have a flat front with a zip back and elastic waist in the back. I will one hundred percent break up the set and wear the shorts with either a white knit or woven top. The downside is that the romper does not have pockets, as it does not exactly qualify as a romper. The shorts do not have pockets either, ostensibly to keep the style streamlined. On the upside, this straps of this dress feature snappable bra stays.
Per the Vintage Vault page, the print is from 1971, titled the Liza. Since last fall, the storied resort brand has been leaning into prints from the 1960s and 1970s. Not only are the prints a throwback to the earlier days of the Lilly Pulitzer brand, but this style reminds me a lot of a few vintage Lilly Pulitzer styles that I uncovered on eBay and Etsy. In all my time stalking the secondary sites for vintage pieces specifically from the 1960s, and it has been nearly a decade doing so, I have never ever find maxi styles in the sizes I buy. As such, as soon as I saw look number eighty in the Spring / Summer show, I knew I would buy it upon release.
