Triple Flare

The weekend after it launched, my husband and I binged Jenna Lyons’ new HBO Max show Stylish with Jenna Lyons. I was promptly inspired to break out my sequins during daytime. Why should my sequin-laden clothing hang in my closet? This past Saturday, I turned it up to eleven (name the movie reference) and mixed sequins (the dress), velvet (the shoes and headband), and tartan (the mask).

the dress

I bought this dress last year, nearly to the day, as I needed a dress for the company holiday party and the Brooks Brothers between my office and my house just happened to have this one in my size. I layered it with my cocoon coat, opaque black tights, and embellished kitten heels due to the winter chill.

The dress has a back zip and button closure. Though it is difficult to tell in photos (both mine and the product photo), the dress has an overlay at the top resembling a shirt. I was in my second trimester of pregnancy; the stretchy fabric even allowed me to go down a size. Now that I am not pregnant, I could probably go down another size. This is to say that if you are straddling sizes, most definitely opt for the smaller one.

the coat

I bought the coat from J.Crew two years ago. It sold out nearly immediately after it was released in this particular colorway and I obsessively stalked it until my size became available. It was well worth the bookmark it because this herringbone tweed number is timeless. I love wearing it over a dress, jeans, sweats, and soon-to-be pajamas. I have not done the lattermost…yet. Jenna Lyons encourages mixing pajama pieces with those items in your closet intended to wear in the real word; no doubt I have big plans for this.
