Today, I want to talk about the steam room function in the shower at our flat. We have lived here in Kazakhstan for over a year and it took me this long to appreciate a good steam in the negative degree winters.
I am not a doctor and not qualified to give medical advice. That said, I love using the steam room for work out recovery. It takes awhile for it to reach the appointed heat. As such I always fire it up during my workout or as soon as I get home from the gym. I set it to 45 degrees Celsius, which is about 120 degrees Fahrenheit. This is the high end of what I read to be recommended.
There is a timer on it and I generally jump in when there is a manageable amount of time left. The temperature the steam shower has reached depends on how long I stay in; usually no longer than fifteen minutes. I can see the Pamper Pirate’s playpen and crib from the glass, so I am constantly wiping down the glazed panels, knocking on the glass, and waving to our nugget.
I think this is preparing me to take a Bikram class.
This week, I went to the embassy gym twice and worked out with weights twice. My goal is to increase the distance covered within the 65 minute window I spend on the treadmill until I work up to running a ten minute mile pace for sixty minutes. I am trying to increase in minimal increments, in order to not hurt myself.
Let’s meet back here next week, same time same place, for a check in?
