Do you remember when that damn Cult Gaia Ark clutch completely dominated blogs, Instagram, and beyond? It had us in a chokehold. Even though the brand still offers the style, it is high time to retire the mid 2010s influencer favorite. Not only is the clutch stale, but I declare that it straight up jumped the shark as I saw townies from my small Mississippi hometown carrying it.
Still, I think there is something to be said for materials found in nature as the basis for spring and summer seasonal handbags. Think straw, raffia, rattan, wicker, and other materials that one could essentially weave into a basket. I look forward for the temperatures consistently hitting seventy degrees Fahrenheit or warmer and not only for an excuse to break out my own basket-inspired handbag.

The Kate Spade Wicker Sam is timeless and lived rent-free in my mind for two decades before I ordered it. It was the sort of obsession that does not just dissolve.
I love a top handle bag and I love a bag with a shoulder strap or a crossbody strap. I, however, do not love a crossbody strap on a top handle bag. It is trying to be too many things. The Wicker Sam attempts that, but the crossbody strap clips off. I will keep it rolled up in the interior zip pocket and break it out when the Pamper Pirate inevitably becomes unruly and I need both hands to manage the chaos.
The gingham printed lining is perfect for a summer bag. With the drawstring at the top of the excess lining, the contents are secured. As such, coupled with wearing this with the crossbody strap, the Wicker Sam would even make a good travel purse to any warm weather destination.
Lastly, the price was right. At the original MSRP of $318, I was not going to buy a wicker basket bag. However it was much more palatable at the Black Friday {final sale} price of $159. I think otherwise I would have considered emailing Kate Spade about swapping out the Wicker Sam Bag I was sent for one that did not have a warped weave. (See the below photo for what I mean.) I suppose the slanted weave makes it more unique but judging from the product photo, the weave is intended to be better aligned.
