National Nail Polish Day

Happy National Nail Polish Day to all who celebrate!

When I shipped toiletries to Kazakhstan ahead of our huge move to Asia, copious (seventeen, to be exact) bottles of Essie nail lacquer, in addition to hair spray, dry shampoo, anything that was flammable were confiscated from our shipment. As such, I went two years sans manicures. While I could have bought nail polish abroad, I preferred not to as I was unsure of chemical standards overseas. How do you say BPA-free in Russian? Kazakh?

Cut to moving back to the states. I enjoyed getting manicures and painting my own nails… Until I got pregnant. As I am on the older, “geriatic” side when it comes to pregnancy, I was extremely strict when it came to what products I used. I packed away anything that was not pregnancy safe and out of an abundance of caution, I stopped painting my nails.

Now that the baby is here, I am having the best time picking out nail colors. In the weeks leading up to the baby’s arrival, I stocked up on more Essie colors. It got to the point that CVS started serving up targeted coupons for the nail polish brand. I even ended up purchasing two bottles of the same color, Wink of Sleep! It was only right that it was the first color I used after baby was born:
