Banana Republic Sequins

I walked over ten thousand steps in these shoes.

If the Olsen twins circa mid aughts taught us anything, it was to wear sequins during the daytime. I find them to be particularly appropriate for a (albeit creative) office in a neutral, not black, shade. (Black reads too formal-slash-night.)

I bought this skirt earlier in the season in a size extra large for the full price. The fit was too big and I was not in love with it at the price I paid. Still after I returned it, I revisited the style. Once it went on markdown for half the price and an additional promotional percentage off, I ordered it in a size large.

The skirt is cut on the bias. Like many an article of clothing cut on the bias, it bunches up a bit at the hips, disguised in the product photos by the blazer. Nevertheless, I like the skirt.

Wearing a pair of Dr. Scholl’s sandals with a sequin skirt is quite the iconoclastic move. A lesser sartorially adventurous woman would likely opt to wear this outfit with a pair of heels. However, the combination of sequins with a tee shirt was anything but coloring within the lines.

This is my first pair of Dr. Scholl’s sandals. Fitting that I am wearing a pair of orthopaedic shoes now that I am forty years old. Nevertheless, I had no idea how comfortable they would be. I was skeptical, in fact. I scampered from my children’s daycare to my office, from my office to lunch restaurant and back, around Center City checking off errands, attending a happy hour kick off for the Young Friends groups of the Philadelphia performing arts organizations, and finally walking home. This would end up with an eventual total of over ten thousand steps. While my feet were tired, as they would be with any shoe, I was never in pain, nary a blister to be worn.

I initially ordered these sandals in a size ten. They were too small, they went back, and I ordered them in an eleven.
