It was 1998 when Birkenstocks arrived on my radar and at my high school. The Boston clog was the footwear of choice for students, both guys and gals, of Long Beach High School. During the winter we wore them with a pair of socks and in the summer we wore them as the German company ostensibly intended. I speak from personal experience when I say that the style was the perfect pair of shoes to wear with a pair of Abercrombie & Fitch Slouchy Bootcut Jeans.
Now that Birkenstocks are back and in plenty supply (though I have been wearing my silver glitter Arizona sandals on repeat since 2016, trend cycle be damned), I am helping myself to a giant dose of nostalgia in the form of a new pair of shoes. There are so many color and style options but like my sixteen year old self, I keep coming back to the Boston clog. As opposed to the brown leather or taupe suede colorways that my sister and I respectively owned and shared, I am interested in a muted pastel hued pair this time around.
