Between this skirt, the tulle one from earlier this week, the velvet dress I am wearing to the Nutcracker, and the velvet suit I am wearing next week, bold shades – and fabrics – of green have been dominating my holiday picks this year, and it will surely continue do so into the spring.
the isabella taffeta midi skirt
This skirt caught my eye prior to Thanksgiving and since then, it was on my radar for a Black Friday sale. Luckily I did not have to wait that long as it went on sale prior to the holiday and I ended up ordering it earlier than expected. Even better? Shipping was so quick!
While this skirt has polyester in its fabric content, and you know how I feel about synthetics, everything else about this skirt was golden. I love the pockets, great to toting my keys/fobs around the office building. I wish I did not need the back elastic waist, but alas here we are. The emerald green color can only be described as rich.
I am wearing the Isabella Taffeta Midi Skirt in a size twelve long.
the gap merino turtleneck sweater
I will hands down be buying this sweater in every colorway available in the tall size range. The quality of the merino fiber is so much better than that of the CashSoft fabric that the brand is attempting to pass off as cashmere even though it is some bastardization of nylon and cotton.
How dare the brand indicate that it is related to cashmere.
Interjection! Does anyone else remember when Gap released cashmere? I bought coziest, most fabulous pale gray heather cashmere hoodie circa 2006 in a, wait for it, size medium tall. In 2014, I bought fawn heather, light grey heather, and charcoal grey heather cashmere crewnecks, also in tall. I ordered an oversized grey cashmere crewneck that, along with my Old Navy chino pants, constituted my winter work uniform circa 2018-2019. Lastly, the 2020 holiday collection offered a citron crewneck and a jungle green turtleneck. The good ole days.
Nevertheless the merino wool is tops and the fit is fantastic thanks to the inclusion of the tall size range. I imagine wearing it with everything from a taffeta party skirt to cropped denim to the full length corduroys, as I did the morning of these photos. I am wearing the turtleneck in a size tall extra large.
I will note that turtlenecks are tricky to wear in a high pressure/high stress working environments. I have a specific memory of wearing one of the J.Crew Tissue Knit Turtlenecks during a big deadline day circa winter 2013. The discomfort! I felt like I was being strangled by a weakling all day. The solution is just to not wear it in any deadline week.
