I actually bought this Boden dress for holiday and though I wore it to the Nutcracker, photos did not document that night. I thought that at best, I could rewear it for St. Patrick’s Day, and definitely next holiday. Thanks to the Eagles making it to the Super Bowl, I have not felt at all silly sporting green this week. Let’s be honest, the city is on one.
The dress is a rigid, non-stretch velvet number. Design features include an empire waist and a flounce hem which I would typically not love, too cutesy; however due to the festive nature of the dress, I will allow. There is a back zip and hook-and-eye closure, which I need my husband’s assistance getting into and face a solo struggle to get out of. No joke, it took me about eight minutes in the bathroom stall to release the zipper in an effort to get into gym clothes.
Thanks to lots of lifting and copious upper body classes, it is not the most comfortable throughout my shoulders and arms. (Noted for next holiday, get back up on the treadmill.)

the j.crew control top tights
Ever since returning from Kazakhstan and extreme temperatures, my tolerance for cold temperatures is at its height. There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad gear. Nevertheless, I do not wear tights as much as I used to, even though I am still wearing dresses and skirts. My legs can handle the lightweight cryo chamber that is a Philadelphia winter.
However, I still wear tights to the office when my hemlines are above the knee. The shoes are also a pair of flats in that case. I don’t make the rules. This is forty, this is office wear.
Lately my tights have been of the J.Crew Control Top variety. Not because of the control top feature, but because they are the only ones that fit me these days. As I bought them years ago, prepreganancy, I developed a hole in one of the toes and had to trash them the evening after I documented this outfit. I only did so after ordering a replacement pair.
