GapStudio

Do you remember when Sharon Stone wore a Gap turtleneck and subsequently created a stir on the Oscars red carpet – and on the subsequent pages of the glossies – in the mid 1990s? The storied mall brand was at an all time fever pitch, which was only elevated by one of the first times we recognized a high profile high-low style moment.

Cut to 2024 and Zac Posen’s GapStudio line made a few minor blips on my radar. Until the latter quarter of the year, I understand that the line was unavailable to anyone who was not named Anne Hathaway or Demi Moore, also both on the red carpet.

Holiday brought a few items to the regular Jane, namely a fitted denim dress and two versions of the denim moto jacket, both coated.

Not long after this subbrand launch and my rediscovery did Vogue feature GapStudio and Zac Posen in its latest issue. With the new resume lines of EVP and Creative Director of Gap and Creative Director of Old Navy, he has found his next life post-shuttered namesake label. (Not to be forgotten, his less than remarkable [though I am still wearing clothing from that time frame so….🤷🏻‍♀️] stint at Brooks Brothers, 2014 to 2020.)

From his spread in this month’s Vogue, we can anticipate mini and midi length dresses in bright cerise, cutouts (absolutely not for the office, looking at you Heidi Klum during the workwear Project Runway challenge), and trouser and trench coats (styled as a set) in chambray in an upcoming collection. I look forward to discovering if any of these styles will be available in extended length ranges although if the initial collection is any indication, I am out of luck. Nevertheless, crossing my fingers for giraffes everywhere.
