Matchsticks Save the Day

Recently, I wore my Boden Clara dress to work. I encountered a challenge in that the spaces between the bust buttons were gaping in a way that made me (and likely anyone interacting with me in the office) uncomfortable.

After a few moments of going back and forth on changing my outfit, all while the family was about to load into the car, I recalled that I had not one but two packages of Matchstick double stick tape, long ago acquired from J.Crew. And I mean long ago, like a decade ago.

Applying the Matchsticks, especially in a hurry, can be tricky. I found the easiest way to successfully apply it, is to start before you even put on the article of clothing.

  1. Identify the gap in the article of clothing.
  2. Lay the article of clothing on a flat surface.
  3. Remove the paper on one side only of the Matchstick.
  4. Apply to the placket of the gap area of the article of clothing.
  5. Put on the article of clothing and button up to the section with the Matchstick.
  6. Remove the paper on the other side of the Matchstick.
  7. Button the top of the section.
  8. Press the previously gaping section, affixing the placket to itself.
