J.Crew Embellished Denim

Don’t mind me, I am just living out my embellished denim dreams, a mere two decades later.

I nearly did not try these denim due to the fact that they were advertised as having a 35 inch inseam. Perhaps the larger sizes run longer, or maybe I am shrinking – stranger things have happened, ahem drones (no! airplanes) – but I digress. Regardless, I am thrilled with the fit even if they are not long enough to wear with a block heel.

These jeans actually take me back to the turn of the millennium. Embellished denim were big my junior year of high school. Naturally, they were tragically never available in the tall size range. It only took over two decades for the trend to come back, and this time, make it to the tall sizes. Such progress!

In addition to the black denim / black studs option, they are available in a darker denim / gun metal-toned studs color way. I tried these jeans in a size 31 tall and a 32 tall. I went with the smaller size and was comfortable enough to wear them to a late dinner after spending the entire workday, day care pick up, train station pick up, mad dash down the block through a wintry mix.

Gap knits were also very popular around the first time around that embellished jeans were. As such, it felt only right to pair the two Q4 closet acquisitions for their maiden voyage. Do note that this style is more of a mock neck in lieu of turtleneck, however it slants more to a futuristic funnel look than a cheesy 60s men’s style worn under a camel suit look.

I am wearing the turtleneck in a size large tall.
