I fell in love with Tucker back in the summer of 2008. I distinctly recall unpacking and steaming several shipping boxes full of the Classic Blouse while working for the Georgetown Cusp. While the Classic Blouse is cut wide and cropped, it is still an appropriate length for a 6′-2″ frame. The prints, along with the signature shapes, are what the label is known for and added pizzazz to my 2008-to-2012 closet.
One Target collaboration and a studio fire later, and the founder closed down shop. It was a sad day for me to discover. Cut to several years and an article in WWD later when I read out that Tucker relaunched. Rejoice! #andtheangelssang
the Tucker Safari / Sarah shirtdress
Tucker released a cotton collection in 2020, pre-quarantine, while I was still expecting. I purchased what was then called the Safari dress, now the Sarah Shirtdress, after not being able to get it out of my head for weeks, even though I knew I probably would not be able to fit it.
While I was drawn to the Tucker brand nearly fifteen years ago for the signature silk, I enjoy the ease of the Tucker cotton collection. Though I take good care of my clothes, there is no doubt that I wear them hard. Summers sweating it out on the sidewalks in the city inevitably yield glow. In this respect, the cotton collection beats the silk collection. The ability to toss a dress in the washer and dryer at the end of the wear is superior to running it to the cleaners… And remembering to pick it up… Not only is the care of the dress more streamlined and economical, but the cotton collection washes beautifully.
Since I purchased it two years ago, the cotton dress line has expanded. The Safari dress has been renamed the Sarah Shirtdress and it is now offered in twelve more colorways than the original two of cobalt waves and tiger print.
Important note: sizing wise the Safari / Sarah Shirtdress runs large. I am wearing a size medium that has been through the dryer and truth be told, I could have worn it in my third trimester. I should have ordered a small.
