The fifth time wearing this dress in the blog and the fifth way of styling it.
the vintage lilly pulitzer shift dress
I got into shopping vintage Lilly Pulitzer via the secondary market during the spring of 2018. I was inspired after seeing how popular a current style, the Maisie, had been that year. As I was scrolling Instagram that Easter, I was shocked to see how frequent the Maisie popped up on my feed. With that, I resolved not to shop recent Lilly releases, instead resigning myself to researching and shopping 1960s styles. The beauty of Lilly Pulitzer is that even the first and second generation styles are unmistakably the brand.
This vintage Lilly Pulitzer dress is one of my favorite pieces in my closet. I bought it via eBay circa summer of 2019. After a trip to the tailor, I wore it to my 35th birthday party and consequently, several other times that summer and several times every summer since.
This dress started as a vintage size 18 and has since been tailored for a custom fit.
the mignon faget jewelry
I go way back with Mignon Faget jewelry. One of my classmates who lived in the west wing, third floor of Becky Bacot Hall at Millsaps was from New Orleans and introduced me to the jeweler. She then was kind enough, and either brave enough or clueless enough to let me borrow some of her jewelry. Luckily I kept my shit together enough to not lose it.
In the decades since, I built my own collection of Mignon Faget jewelry. In addition to the fleur de lis, banana leaf, and tulip sets, as well as one offs such as the pineapple earrings, I came to own the bow and genuine freshwater pearl collection.
This set is particularly remarkable as most of my Mignon Faget jewelry is on the daintier side. The bow and pearl collection is larger in scale and more eye catching. I tend not to wear it with maximalist outfits but went there with in pairing this jewelry with this dress.
