What I Wore to Work

Up until recently, I had been working remotely for a company that I was with for over a decade, first from down the street, then from Kazakhstan, then from Philadelphia. The pandemic, then living halfway around the world, and then living up 95 necessitated working from home. However, a few months after the birth of my second child, I was ready to return to the office and itching for a new challenge. With that, I began a job search and landed in a new role, new company, new office.

And I love it! I told my husband that I should have made the transition sooner to which he replied, “Timing is everything.”

Over the past month and a half, I moved all of my office accessories into my new workspace. This includes a full length mirror You know, just to make sure my skirt is not tucked into my tights. Quelle horror!

I have a ton of fun dressing for the office. This first step of the day does not need to be stressful; find the joy in it! As I work for a company that values innovation and creativity, I can color outside the lines when it comes to wardrobe while still dressing appropriately for this particular office atmosphere.

I will say that I noticed certain full time bloggers/influencers/creators seem to have opinions on what makes an appropriate work outfit, especially for people who do… not… report… to … an… office. It reminds me of the time on an early Bravo-era Project Runway, Heidi Klum claimed that exposing part of one’s back was not inappropriate for the office. …Ma’am…

I digress.

I frequently find myself flummoxed by some full time bloggers/influencers/craators work wear recommendations. In lieu of those who work full time from home, digitally, for themselves, I look to editors, designers, and those with particularly interesting jobs in office environments similar to mine for office wardrobe inspo.

This weekly installment is my interpretation of what looks appealing, what works for the taller than average woman, and what works from daycare drop to Starbucks to 8 to 5.
