I had just picked up this dress – and more, it was a haul – from the dry cleaners. Still feeling uninspired and disappointed from the election results, it was one of the first things I saw when I woke up that Friday. The ribbed tank style on the top with the a-line cotton on the bottom is forgiving for me, having teetered too high on the scale. If the crochet inset detail does not sell you on the dress, the pockets will. Design and utility!
I bought this dress during the first summer of the pandemic. Since then it has gone out of stock in a few retailers, miraculously I found it both available in a full size range and marked down. Despite buying it four years ago, the dress does not look dated. And that is the beauty of adopting a classic style.

the j.crew tipped cape
As the dress has a tank top styled top half, a sweater was necessary to cover the shoulders and fight against office air conditioning. (Keep in mind, it was a seventy degree high in November.) I knew I wanted to wear my Chanel slingbacks, which feature a black captoe and as such needed a sweater with black in it. I considered my black cashmere crewneck but before I grabbed it, I spotted my tan cape with black tipping.
I bought this cape from the old Georgetown J.Crew location circa 2012. At the time it was a total splurge. Looking back, it was not that expensive; I just bought it at regular price and felt guilty about it. The price per wear will continue to diminish as I continue to wear it. And I do anticipate continuing to wear it! Having had it for twelve years and given it good care, the cape has held up remarkable well.
