Spring Capsule Wardrobe IX

Ecru on ecru for spring, even when the weather is questionable.

the polo ralph lauren cotton sleeveless henley dress

I bought this dress during the first summer of the pandemic and have worn it maybe a handful of times since, including on the blog. It was one of the first Polo Ralph Lauren items I purchased in quite some time, probably since undergrad circa 2006 when I shopped at my local Polo outlet on the regular. My uniform for the time was a Polo oxford and a pair of 7 For All Mankind denim. Class, bar, wherever.

I think I previously wore this dress with a slip. These days I am skipping the slip. A few weeks ago it was simply too hot to wear an additional layer; with this outfit, I was in the car for a few hours later on in the day as we had to drive to Gettysburg for the half marathon. I knew less layers would be more comfortable on such a car ride.

Even though it is a knit cotton / woven cotton mix, this dress is dry clean only. I get it; the dress does not scream “throw me in the machine wash.” The woven tiered skirted part of my dress – which I suspect is the cause of the dry cleaning requirement- is my favorite part of the dress. It elevates the ribbed knit top portion.

About the woven tiered skirt, the woven cotton tiers alternate with rows of delicate (lined) lace. The length of the dress is modest enough to be able to chase around the Pamper Pirate sans risk of wardrobe incidents.

the rowing blazers blazer

While I have covered Rowing Blazers on the blog, I have yet to post about this blazer. It should not have taken me so long to wear it, as I picked it up along with the blue striped and the gun check during pandemic sales.

While I tend to be drawn to acid brights, I knew a neutral based spring capsule collection absolutely called for this very blazer. It goes with everything. It is a shame spring weather in Philadelphia can be so rogue. I was hoping to have more opportunities to wear it without an outer layer and the window to do so is super slim.

My favorite part is the grosgrain ribbon trim on all of the hems. The tone-on-tone is just as chic as can be. It, and every other blazer I have bought from the brand, is not lined. This is its sole opportunity.
