I don’t think anyone had it on their 2025 bingo card that Tim Walz home state of Minnesota-headquartered, Target, would rid their Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion program… In an effort to kiss the presidential ring? Who knows. What I do know is how disappointed I am in my previous stalwart for cheap-chic clothing and a designer collaboration.
Lilly Pulitzer, Vineyard Vines, Rowing Blazers, Loveshackfancy / Lisa Marie Fernandez / Cushnie dress collection, Diane von Furstenburg, Target Collaboration 20th Anniversary
I shopped them all.
Cut to over ten years ago, I was at my then-boyfriend’s, now husband’s and baby daddy’s apartment when I got a text from a friend. Target had then teased a collaboration but did not reveal the brand. The brand, of course, would end up being Lilly Pulitzer and hence Lilly x Target madness ensued. People were either upset at the “cheapening” of the resort 365 brand (snobs) or psyched for the newfound accessibility of the brand (ME!) from those who previously purchased the standard line and those who did not.
But back to that 2015 text. My friend had strong suspicions that the collaboration was with Kate Spade New York. It would take nearly a decade for that collaboration to come to fruition. Unfortunately for the premium-mediocre (j/k, nothing but respect for my Sam and other 90s-era bags), the timing is way off with the elimination of Target’s DEI. Unfortunately for Target, I do not foresee women budging on this issue.

but the Kate Spade x Target collaboration?

DEI benefits woman – even those who are double agents for the patriarchy, even those who falsely believe that they are above those programs – and therefore not even the best designer collaboration will make me budge. In fact, going forward I will not shop, nor link Target.
Which influencers do you think will sell their souls to hok Kate Spade x Target?
