Choose your fighter: Chanel or J.Crew.
Square cap toe heels are so hot right now, thanks in large part to Matthieu Blazy. The creative director of Chanel has ushered in a new era of the storied brand, and said brand is now en fuego to the point that TikTok is flooded with Chanel hauls thus prompting the question:
How in the hell are people affording this?
I do not count out buying Chanel but I keep my purchases to the classics: a double flap bag and a pair of cap toe slingbacks. I only opted to buy these after making peace with how many post-401k, post-tax hours I would need to work to afford such a purchase.
I digress.
With the recent J.Crew rollout of autumn 2026, I immediately clocked the square cap toe interpretation of Blazy’s Chanel shoe. At 250-ish dollars, it is a mere fifteen-ish percent of the luxury option. J.Crew haul, sure. Chanel haul, check your credit score.
the comparison: $1500 versus $268
- The Chanel cap toe heels range from $1225 to $1500. The J.Crew version clocks in at a much more palatable $268.
- I have found Chanel shoes, at least of the classic variety, to be available up to a size twelve women’s, half sizes included. Admittedly the size of my foot does necessitate a size twelve. Not an eleven. A twelve. The J.Crew version is available from size five to twelve, also in half sizes sans the sole 11.5.
- Both colorways of the J.Crew version has a leather upper. The Chanel version is made of both calfskin and lambskin.
- The Chanel heel ranges in 3.5 to 3.7 inches in height. The J.Crew is a more manageable 3 inches in height.
